The bridges alone are worth it.Sep 04, 2010
This expansion adds 3 new game mechanics.
1.) Bridges - You only get a limited amount but they can help you tremendously by adding a road to your tile so it can fit in the right place. These bridges are fantastic at making farms connect since you can chose to create a bridge as an extension of a road. At first I didn't use them as much, but they can be a very valuable addition.
2.) Bazaars - We haven't extensively play tested this one, but it was fun when we did use it. Tiles are auctioned and people take turns bidding on how many points they are wiling to buy it. The strategy comes down to knowing who needs the piece more and possibly bidding them up, or outbidding them completely. Be careful however because if you bid 4 points then you go back 4 spaces and the auctioneer goes up by 4 for an 8 point spread. It obviously plays better with more people in the respect.
3.) Castles - A very interesting addition to the game. It kind of plays out like the count of carcassonne by allowing you to get in on the other players points. Again it's a very interesting idea, but the rules leave some things up for interpretation. They are especially a problem with the tower & dragon expansion since it allows your meeples to be in the middle of two tiles.
Overall, the bridges add a nice bit of options and that's only 1/3 of the expansion. The Bazaars could be a hit or miss with the group, but I personally like it. There are only 8 auction tiles in there so it's not as if the game is constantly being paused to auction. The Castles are great in there own. I like all three and you'll probably at least like 2 out of 3 of the addition.

Best with more than two playersDec 06, 2010
By Amberlynn Lane I have played most of the expansions for Carcassonne, so we were excited to try this new set. Bazaars create a bidding element that doesn't really work for two players, but could be fun with more players. Bridges expand your options when placing tiles, which is nice. Our favorite component is the Castles, which can give you the chance to piggy-back score. They can really aid you, or really throw a wrench in an opponents plans, depending on what you choose to do with them. There are other expansions I like better (Princess and Dragon, for example), but Bridges, Castles, and Bazaars is still great.

Good, but not the best.Nov 11, 2011
By Jennifer Vandever If you are only going to get a few Carcassonne expansions, don't get this one first. It's fun, and it adds cool stuff to the game, but Traders & Builders and Inns & Cathedrals are better as far as big expansions go. The Castles are a really great element, but the Bridges are a little weird, and Bazaars is very weird with two players. I could see it being a lot of fun with six players.

A fun twistAug 03, 2010
By John Aside from purchasing the Carcassonne Big Box 2, this was the only other expansion I purchased that was not included. Adding bridges to the Carcassonne board really adds a fun twist to the game, and seemed to add more to the game than I felt other expansions had to offer. I have not played many of the other expansions not included in the Big Box 2 purchase, so my opinion on this matter is limited greatly. For now, this expansion serves to offer enough alternatives to hold my interest in Carcassonne and keep the game fresh. Still, the game has a ton of replay-ability by itself.
Fun can't stop playingFeb 02, 2012
By S. Bradshaw My adult children introduced me to this game and I had to own it myself. If I can't find people to play I play alone on my iPad. So much fun. Great family entertainment
