 A must-have add-on for CarcassonneJul 13, 2010
The Inns and Cathedrals is a must-have add-on for Carcassonne. It adds a new dimension to the basic game allowing players to score more points and take away points from opponents.
Road tiles with inns allow to score double points for completed roads. City tiles with cathedrals allow to score triple points for completed cities. However, if a road with an inn or a city with a cathedral is incomplete, the feature is worth zero points, so it is possible to take away points from opponents, especially towards the end of the game. The big meeple is worth two regular meeples and so makes it easier to take over an opponent's feature.
The add-on also comes with a full set of gray meeples which allows six players to play and a set of scoring tiles to keep track of scores. This add-on is almost an integral part of Carcassonne. We play it every time we play Carcassonne.

The Cathedrals expansion is wonderful. It adds just enough to make the game play a little more exciting but it does not take away from the original in any way. I'd recommend this if you enjoy the original.

as I have presented carcassonne more then 10 times as a gift , the game gets more and more friends . my best experinences I do have playing the basic game just with this first extension. if you are a game family you can teach the basics already to a 6 year old.

An expansion by one to the primary Carcassone game easily distinct from the primary game pieces. It allows for more strategies to arrange the tiles and collect points. A different everytime game. Different skill levels can play the game with increasing enjoyment as strategies are learned.

My family has recently gotten very into this game, so getting the extension kit adds to all the fun.
