Description:

Wheel of Fortune is both a full replacement for the base game of Carcassonne and an expansion to the original base game. It includes 72 tiles, consisting of 63 tiles released in the original base game, 6 from Inns & Cathedrals , 1 from Traders & Builders and 2 from King & Scout . It also includes a special replacement start tile which depicts the Wheel of Fortune, a new mechanic unique to this edition of the game. The new start tile is the size of 16 tiles, arranged in a 4 x 4 square and is built using some of the tiles removed from the base game. Nineteen tiles from the game have numbers printed on them allowing players to randomly spin the Wheel of Fate (between 1 and 3 spaces around the wheel). Otherwise, a player may choose to move a pink pig animeeple one sixth turn around the wheel if they decline placing a follower that turn. The results of the Wheel vary depending on which of the sixths of the wheel the pig lands on. Results vary from forcing all players to remove a follower from the board to rewarding the player who moves the pig with three bonus points. There are six outcomes in all. Play of this game does not require ownership of any Carcassonne base game. All expansions are compatible with this game. This game can also be played with the base game as an expansion, using its wagon wheel watermark to differentiate it from the base game.

5Wheel of fun.Jun 13, 2011
By Joel Elmer Coldwater III "Research For The Best"
This expansion adds another level to carcassonne. A level of chance and probability, but not too much.
What i like about carcassonne is that is is a balanced game as far as strategy, and this expansion stays along those lines. Invest too much in the wheel and lose out other places etc.

Once you know the probability of a certain number being dran and where the pig will end up, this expansion should increase your scores, but be nice and let others in on your little tricks ;-)

5Christmas GiftJan 09, 2012
By A. Furtwengler
My wife and I received Carcassonne: Wheel of Fortune as a Christmas gift and we were very eager to try it. We've struggled to find board games that play well with only 2 players. We were not disappointed.

Having never heard of or played a game similar to Carcassonne in the past (we're used to the traditional board games with a fixed board) we had a couple stumbles regarding "meeple" placement and scoring, but a quick online search cleared everything up.

While we both feel that the wheel adds a fun random quality to the game, we agree that "betting on the wheel" by placing meeples on it isn't worth the lost ability to play the "meeple" on land tiles - we've also played with a larger group and find it to be the same risk v. reward loss.

However, the short yet very entertaining game play (1.5 hours versus many hours of monopoly), definite end-point (game is over when the tiles run out), and countless possibilities (random tile drawing, random wheel, etc) make this a game that I'm sure we'll reach for over and over again. I would highly recommend Carcassone and, who knows, as our strategy gets better betting on the wheel may win or lose the game.

We're now trying to figure out which expansion would be best...

5Simple to learn, entertaining, and can get very complex!Apr 16, 2011

This is one of those games that looks rather inocuous at first glance. It's very simple in concept, and extremely easy to learn. However as you pick it up, the games can get very involved (especially with the expansion packs.)

Another classic from Rio Grande.

5Great alternate base set for CarcassonneMay 03, 2012
By W. baron
First off, this is a BASE set for Carcassonne. It can be played all by itself, and really shouldn't be combined with a regular Carcassonne base set(at least not for the faint of heart as it would make for a LONG game to have two base sets in play).

Second, this expansion improves the original in every conceivable way. Really, this is just Carcassonne with a different starting block and a few cards that "turn the wheel" when played. In reality that tiny change makes a huge difference because it allows players to not only play their meeples on a piece of land, but they can also place meeples to bet on the wheel. It makes Carcassonne feel fresh and balanced and I cant imagine playing Carcassonne without it now.I actually prefer to play this by itself than play the original Carcassonne with expansions. It just scratches the gaming itch perfectly and is a perfect game.

If you don't have a copy of Carcassonne, get this and thank me. If you already have Carcassonne, this is still better, but maybe not worth the money. It does work with your other Carcassonne expansions too, it just might not be worth it to have two base sets and from experience, playing both original and Wheel together dilutes the wheel cards too much to be enjoyable.
