A light Scottish flavoured euro game for the familyMar 08, 2012
By Godly Gadfly Highland Clans first appeared under the name MacRobber in 2005, and was the subject of a reprint under the new name of Highland Clans. It is a Scottish themed game, where players build up their clans and landholdings, and from time to time go on raids to reduce the landholdings of the neighbouring clans. It's a typical euro game in many respects, although perhaps lighter and more interactive than most, plays from 3 to 5 players, and takes only 30-45 minutes to play.
What really rescues this game from mediocrity is the theme - although perhaps that also has a lot to do with who's playing the game. Getting into character makes the game a lot more fun, and prevents it from being a merely ordinary and light cube-pushing euro. But there are other redeeming qualities as well, including the strongly interactive `take that' element through the Raids, which is somewhat unusual for a typical euro, and the fact that the gameplay moves along briskly, avoiding the need for lengthy downtime or even analysis paralysis.
When measured by the best in the genre, Highland Clans probably falls somewhat short. But if you come in with relatively low expectations, and don't mind some luck, confrontation, and acknowledge the need to work together to reign in any leader, and have 3 or 4 players willing to give it a shot, it can prove to be a pleasant surprise. - EndersGame @ BGG

By Carol McKellar Highland Clans is really fun to play! In order for your clan to win you must "steal" cattle or destroy other objects or just gain enough power yourself. Our family has enjoyed it and I'd definitely recommend it.
