| | | Description: | | Each player has a set of buildings to place. Placing a building uses a whole wagon load of resources: 1 each of wood, bricks, and wheat. The roll of the die determines how far the wagons will move. When any child stops beside a resource that they need, they can load the resource into their wagon. When your wagon is full, you get to build a new house! The house must be placed in the right spot in the village. Then the resources are returned to the board so they can be collected again! After you build all your houses, you begin collecting resources again to build the Town Hall. The player who builds the Town Hall wins the game! Of course, children are also encouraged to play with the wonderful wooden buildings by themselves, and to create their own games and adventures in Catan! The game is for 2-4 players and takes about 15 minutes to play. The game features extremely high-quality components. | | | Features: | |

No skill or strategy, straight luckJan 30, 2010 A bit disappointed in the game.
It's all luck. There is absolutely no strategy or skill involved at all.
I was hoping this would help my daughter learn a little of the regular Settlers game, making the transition to that game smoother/easier.
Ha - no such luck. The only similarities are in the names and what the pieces are called.
My 3 yr old can play this, and my 6 yr old gets bored after a while.
Definitely in the "pre-kinder" category

Kids of CatanAug 11, 2009 I was a little disappointed in the game because it has no strategy. My 7 and 5 year old can play it by themselves which is nice but I was hoping for a game that we could enjoy as a family.

Five year old LOVES The Kids of CatanJan 22, 2009 For me The Kids of Catan is by no means as fun as Settlers of Catan, but for my five year old, she absolutely loves it. I do find it much more entertaining than some of the other children games we have bought for her.
The small buildings and the gathering of the resources has kept her interest and imagination going. We will see what happens after a few months with this interest, but she wants to play this game everyday.
It does have some limitations to the levels of the game that can be played, but it seems to be a good buy for now.
Very worth getting for your younger children
Great game for kidsSep 22, 2008 This is a great game for kids. My 4 year old son loved the fact that dad finally had a game he could play. He spends as much time playing with it by himself as he does playing with dad. The wooden pieces are really nice but I have had a couple of them come unglued.

Great funMar 17, 2008 I decided to write this review when today, my 5 year old son and his 6 year old best friend pulled out this game and started playing it independently. They have been playing it for a half an hour, at least, without ANY adult direction or help with set up or play. That's amazing.
