4pretty awesomeMar 22, 2009

This game was so much fun! My whole family likes to play board games, and this is our newest edition. We don't play games like Monopoly, we play things like wizard gizard, last night on earth, settlers, agricola, ect. Tigris and Euphrates is perfect for anyone, it's really easy to learn. I'm 12, so if there is a problem with the game it usually refers to the fact that it is a little to hard for me to play, but this game is really fun and i love it!

5Excellent Game - A Must Buy for the CollectionMay 29, 2009
By Sean R. Kilby "Amazon Accountant"
I want to start off by addressing the accessibility/learning curve of this excellent game. With all the discussion of it's complexity floating out there on the internet, I was worried that it might be too tough to learn (and teach to others). Turns out, THIS GAME IS NOT HARD TO UNDERSTAND OR LEARN! So rest assured that it will not languish on the shelf collecting dust before you get around to learning the rules.

This is a new edition, complete with a double sided board and new "advanced" scenario. But it also includes the simpler, original version of the game.

The components are of excellent quality and should stand up to the wear and tear of many sessions of play. There is certainly no quality issue in this box.

If you're a fan of board games and want something that will really hook you, this is a great game to buy.

5Great board gameApr 10, 2010
By E. Bullock
This is a great board game, with fairly simple rules (they take about 10-15 minutes to explain to new players; among my favorite board games, probably only Carcassonne is simpler), interesting game mechanics, and often exciting gameplay. In many board games (e.g. Settlers of Catan) I find the random elements and hidden information annoy me, but in Tigris and Euphrates they really add a lot to the game.

Apparently Mayfair Games has been having some QA problems with this new edition of Tigris and Euphrates: there's a reference on their web site to some games being shipped without enough treasure cubes for the advanced scenario and mine came with several other pieces missing/not fitting together. Fortunately, their Customer Service by email was very courteous and they quickly mailed me replacement pieces.

I wouldn't recommend buying an earlier edition; just make sure to check that all the pieces are there as soon the game arrives instead of waiting until the first time you play like I did.

5One hell of a strategy gameApr 27, 2012

This is one of the most underrated board games. It is appreciated and almost venerated by boardgames geeks, but completely unknown byt the larger public.
Yet, this is one of the most strategic board game around. Very little luck, it's all about placing the right tiles at the right place at the right moment. This game has almost no flaws, and no two games are alike. It's great with 2 players, but it's a blast with 4.
Overall one of the best.

5A Wonderful Gaming ExperienceFeb 16, 2012
By DaBrandoChipper "MathNerd"
I am an above average chess player. I am no expert, mind you, but I have enjoyed the game for many years. I have been in search of a game that is similar in the tactical/decision making but does not require hours of reading books and studying theory AND can include up to 4 players. There are hundreds of games that fit this description, but I decided to give Tigris and Euphrtates a try. I haveplayed about 6 games so far and have found the games to be intellectually stimulating, fun, and varied. The rules seem daunting at first, but its actually much simpler to grasp than you think. If the rule book leaves a few questionmarks (but I actually find the rules to be well explained with helpful examples) there are several youtube videos that could help you out.

Basically on each turn, you must make two actions and these actions include 1) placing a leader 2) placing a tile 3) exchanging up to 6 tiles. You can make both actions the same type if you so choose. You score points in one of three ways 1) laying tiles in the same region as a leader 2) buidling monuments and 3) resolving conflicts. There is just the right amount of decision making without being cumbersome and at the same time maintaining the fun factor. The tiles you draw add just a hint of luck, but what you do with the tiles is usually more important than the tiles themsleves. The game is usually won by the person who makes the best tactical decisions.

The game itself is a great experience for a group who enjoys "chess type" games. It is NOT the depth of chess, but it doesn't portend to be. My only gripe is that I wish the board was a bit thicker/larger. The tiles and pieces seem to be of a nice quality and should last a long time with proper care. But I also have the Ticket to Ride board game, and if you have played that you should know what a high quality board that is. If the Tigris and Euphrates board were only of that high level of quality! I guess you cant have everything. The board is actually fine, you are just going to have to take a little care of it.

A highly recommended game overall.
