It's inspired by the Portuguese Age of Discoveries in the 15th-16th century. Players take actions such as contracting men, acquiring ships and buildings, sailing the seas, establishing colonies in discovered lands, trading goods on the market, and getting privileges. Each player starts with only two ships and three workers and tries to expand his wealth. There are several undiscovered lands that allow players, once discovered, to found some colonies there. Colonies exist in different places where sugar, gold and spices are available and can be sold to the market to make some money. Money is used to build ships, erect buildings such as factories, shipyards and churches, and to get workers. Workers are necessary to found colonies or to acquire buildings and privileges, which exist in five categories and therefore encourage players to follow different strategies competing with each other. At the end of the game the player who is most successfully combining his privileges with his achievements (colonies, factories, discoveries, shipyards, and churches) is the winner. | | | Features: | |

Great game - easy to learn & play, lots of strategyMay 16, 2011

After playing a couple of 2 player game, I had a chance to introduce 2 new people to this game (in a 4 player game). After complaining about becoming a stock market broker during the presentations of the rules, they understood the game immediately after a couple of quick turns. The game flows very fast, the rules feel natural (we got one rule wrong and it felt wrong). Despite this simplicity, the game has a large number of strategies possible. Specialization is encouraged. Overall, I would recommend this to everybody. Even people new to board games will catch up pretty quick. The market rules is the only part that requires a bit of math - if you are playing with kids, that might be the only obstacle.

Great Economic Euro GameJan 07, 2012
By Daltonovich If your a fan of Puerto Rico, Endeavor, or any other euro/"german-style" boardgame with a shipping and trading theme, Navegador is a great choice. The game involves exploration and colonization of Portuguese trade routes spanning the southern half of the Eurasian continent all the way to Nagasaki. The game comes with a large board, high quality components, including cardboard coins, wooden ships, and individual player-boards to keep track of your flourishing enterprise. Along the way, you'll be colonizing, hiring workers, building churches and shipyards, and effectively producing and selling goods, manipulating a supply and demand market mechanic. The game uses the Rondel system for action choices on your turn similar to other games by its designer (Mac Gerdts). It works well with even two players, and I can see myself wanting to play it more in the future to try out different strategies. 2-5 Players, 60-90 minutes.

fun medium-hard euro-gameNov 21, 2011
By Jane Doe I like Navegador. It looks & feels like a euro-game (which is a compliment): the pieces are sturdy & wooden. There are multiple strategies from which to attempt to win the game. It plays well 5 player, and good 5 player games are less-than-common.
It's DEFINITELY harder than, say, Trans-America/ Trans-Europa (probably the easiest euro-games on the market), but not out of reach for a newbie (if others are patient with reminders).
